Pros: Full privacy, affordable, easy to stain or paint
Cons: Can look flat from the outside, susceptible to wind pressure without proper post spacing
Board-on-Board
Board-on-board fences overlap each picket slightly, creating a layered look with no visible gaps — even as the wood shrinks over time. This is our most requested style because it looks great from both sides and handles wood movement better than solid board.
Pros: Full privacy even as wood ages, attractive from both sides, excellent wind resistance
Cons: Uses more material than solid board, slightly higher cost
Horizontal Slat Fencing
Horizontal fences have a modern, contemporary look that has become very popular in Sacramento. Boards run horizontally instead of vertically, creating clean lines that complement modern architecture.
Pros: Modern aesthetic, unique look, full privacy
Cons: Requires precise installation, slightly more labor-intensive
Shadow Box
Shadow box fences alternate boards on each side of the rail, creating a pattern that allows air flow while still providing significant privacy. From a direct angle, you cannot see through. From a side angle, there are small gaps.
Pros: Good privacy, great airflow, looks identical from both sides
Cons: Not 100% private from all angles
